However, it makes sense to plan ahead. There are fewer ferries going to and from Martha’s Vineyard during the winter because it's a less popular time of year to visit the island. The good news is that the Steamship Authority does provide service on a year-round basis. Besides relaxing by a roaring fire at your hotel or inn and eating delicious meals, there are plenty of things to do on the island. For example, you can spend the day at one of the many famous Martha’s Vineyard beaches. You may not end up going in the water, but the views are spectacular, and the sand is still soft. As an added bonus, you’ll pretty much have the beach to yourself.
You can also hit the trails and do some hiking. The many trails are open during the winter months. In essence, they provide an incredible landscape that’s just as beautiful but different then it is in the summer season. The hiking trails in Martha’s Vineyard are perfect for hikers of every skill level, so, even if you’re a beginner, you’ll be comfortable during your outdoor winter adventure.
The alpaca farm is also open during the winter. It’s home to over 40 friendly adult alpacas and there are some baby alpacas as well. If you’re bringing children with you on your vacation, they will love this place. If you’re looking for an indoor activity, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum is also open on a year-round basis.
