Hot Spots to Visit While You’re in Vineyard Haven & Oak Bluffs
In last week’s blog, we gave you a sampling of restaurants that stay open all year if you’re visiting Edgartown. Here are some other places to try if you find yourself traveling to Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. You’ll find that many great restaurants stay open for the locals, and for those out-of-towners who don’t mind a little chill in the air. After all, the best way to eat clam chowder is on a chilly day, right?
Check out this sampling, and let us know if you’ve made some discoveries of your own that you’d like to share.
Vineyard Haven
When you think of Martha’s Vineyard, you probably think of seafood. While it’s true there are many great places to sample the cuisine of the sea, you might be surprised to know there are many other types of restaurants as well.
The Copper Wok will tempt you with an array of Asian-fusion cuisine—Crab Rangoon, Vegetable Szechuan, not to mention creative sake drinks! There are plenty of vegetable entrees for vegetarians. For meat eaters, you can enjoy seafood, chicken and pork entrees, including Lime Ginger Shrimp and other gourmet delights.
Travelers rave about the hot and sour soup, the sashimi, and have even called it the best Chinese food they’ve ever had. The attentive staff here takes great care to ensure you have the best experience. And the modern, yet relaxing ambience invites you to come in and stay a while.
Little House Café is a local favorite where you can find all kinds of inspired gourmet dishes. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Red Thai Curry Chicken Kabobs are legendary. Try their Pan-Seared Cod, Lamb Burger, Sirloin Meatballs & Linguini, and Indonesian Gado Gado Salad.
They’re also known for heavenly desserts, from flourless chocolate cake to strawberry shortcake on an almond biscuit. Try their lemon chiffon mousse with fresh fruit. And don’t miss their ice cream cookie sandwiches. This is also the place for baked goods—all flavors of cookies (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and peanut butter toffee chocolate chip). For those who like to enjoy muffins and scones with their coffee, here’s a place to find banana nut bread, cranberry orange scones, blueberry muffins and more.
Bring the whole family, and the kids will have their own special menu, with all items $6.50—all kid-friendly entrees like grilled cheese, hot dogs and more.
Last but not least, this cozy eatery is also known for its Taco Nights. Come on out and enjoy a Mexican fiesta on the island!
Oak Bluffs
MV Chowder Company has been voted the best clam chowder on the island by Yankee Magazine, Cape Cod Magazine and more. Winter is a perfect time to settle in with a steamy bowl of their signature soup. But the locals will tell you, there’s even more to love here—from lobster rolls, sweet chili wings and steaks to gourmet salads and chicken dishes. You MUST try their risotto balls and grilled asparagus dishes.
If you’re looking for a casual, comfortable atmosphere, head to the Park Corner Bistro. You’ll discover pizza and bruschetta you never knew existed. Try the Gala Apple Pizzetta, which has a grilled crust topped with a Gala Apple whiskey sauce, carmelized onions, apple wood smoked bacon and blue cheese. They also post photos of their newest culinary creations on their Facebook page. Don’t forget to check out their Sunday brunch, where the Bloody Marys are said to be the best on the island.
