Autumn Attractions on Martha’s Vineyard
The summer is quickly coming to a close. That means the busy season on Martha’s Vineyard is almost over. However, there are many things to do and places to see once the leaves start turning colors. First and foremost, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, which is open year-round, is a great place to visit during the fall months. This place provides patrons with a ton of information regarding the island’s art, culture and storied history. The museum has a great deal of collections and exhibits. It also holds many special events during the Autumn such as guided tours of Gay Head, the East Chop lighthouses, and Edgartown.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum is located in historic Edgartown. For visitors who enjoy the outdoors, there are some terrific places to go hiking. For example, both the Nature Trails and Land Conservation/Preservation are fully open to the public. In addition, the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Edgartown, is something to see. Not only does it include four miles of hiking or walking trails, but the facility also has a nature center, discovery room, and observation building. There are also natural history-based programs available for both children and adults.
If you love plants and flowers, be sure to check out the Polly Hill Arboretum, which is located in West Tisbury. There is an abundance of plants to see. The Polly Hill Arboretum is open until Columbus Day. Last but certainly not least is an activity that the entire family will appreciate. The Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks glass blowing facility is open to the public. You will not only learn about the art of glassblowing but get to see some amazing glass blowing artists in action.
